The European Alliance for Personalised Medicine (EAPM) is supporting the dissemination of a new European survey launched as part of the SYNTHIA project, which aims to gather citizens’ perspectives on the use of synthetic data in healthcare and research.
As data driven innovation continues to shape the future of medicine, synthetic data is emerging as an important tool to enable research while protecting patient privacy. Generated from real world data but without identifying individuals, synthetic datasets provide a secure way to develop and test new technologies, including artificial intelligence applications in healthcare.

The survey has been co designed with the patient community by Patvocates, with the objective of better understanding public expectations, concerns, and levels of acceptance regarding the use of synthetic data across Europe.
While synthetic data offers significant opportunities, discussions within the SYNTHIA project emphasise that it complements rather than replaces real patient data. Both are needed to ensure meaningful, reliable, and patient centred innovation.
EAPM encourages stakeholders, patients, and citizens to contribute to this important initiative. Insights gathered through the survey will support the development of responsible data governance frameworks and help ensure that innovation aligns with societal values and patient needs.
The survey is available in multiple languages and takes approximately 12 to 15 minutes to complete.

Through its involvement in SYNTHIA, EAPM continues to support multi stakeholder collaboration and the development of policy frameworks that enable safe, effective, and trusted use of health data in Europe.
