The Brussels-based European Alliance for Personalised Medicine will host a meeting in the historical capital of the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy, Bologna, on 26 September.
The city has been an urban centre of the country since at least 1000 BC, with settlements coming under the rule, variously, of the Etruscans, Celts and Romans.
It is home to the University of Bologna, which was founded in 1088 and is the oldest university in the world.
The full-day event in September will see a meeting of the Italian Alliance for Personalised Medicine (IAPM), which was launched in Milan earlier this year.
The aim remains to support the Member States, the European Commission, the European Parliament, and identify how experts can aid them in shaping an environment for personalised medicine.
It is necessary to formulate a patient-centred strategy involving national decision makers and regulators in the arena of public health, to enable the EU and Member States to contribute to integrating personalised medicine into clinical practice while enabling much-greater access for patients.
